Cargo Bar

Cargo
21 Lime Street
SYDNEY NSW 2000

Enjoyable Friday night after work. Nicely warmed up for a good time after being at James Squires (a few bars down the wharf). Enjoyable atmosphere. Decent 'good looking - ugly' ratio of people.
Drinks were 'reasonable' often best to drink in bulk i.e order a bottle of sparkling (also a good trick for impressing people).
....Night sadly came to and end (well our night at Cargo at least) when part of my entourage knocked over a giant pot plant and was 'escorted out the back doors. We carried on afterwoods to Pub Metro for a relaxing beer on the rooftop.

Overall I'd rate Cargo 5/5 - except for the pricey drinks, but the good looking crowd and good music makes up for it.

Le Panic

20 Bayswater Road
Kings Cross
SYDNEY NSW 2011

Good music, good service, good times! In a nutshell really. Le Panic is nestled away from the main hub-bub of 'The Cross' and is located next to Candys and World Bar.

I lost my Le Panic virginity on Friday August 20th, as it was a good friends' t-shirt brand launch night. Jumping at the chance for free entry and free drinks we headed into the city around 9.30ish. A blurry bus ride later, and a ice-cold walk to The Cross from Wynyard landed us in Le Panic around about 11pm. Half a dozen free vodka and cranberry's later, the party really started. The music was good and everybody seemed keen to shred up the dance floor!

Psychedelic wallpaper prints, leather sofas, chaised lounges and candy-looking bar stools created a sleek, suave club experience for the intoxicated. Standard drink prices and fast bar service topped off the night perfectly. The toilets (an important factor to a girls' night out) were impeccable, and were definately one of the 'Top 5 Loos' in the city. Le Panic offered something for everybody; an undercover outside areas, with (wait for it) HEATERS!!!!, a main bar area and dance floor for the more outrageous party animals, and a Shh bar. Yes, a Shh bar. Located away from the main attraction, the Shh bar was another room with a bar and a little alcove of comfy lounges and coffee tables for the tiny percentage of the population, wishing to remember the events of the night the next morning.

Like most clubs in the city you do have to pay an entrance fee, which ranges from $15-20, depending on your gender (yes it does seem a bit biased!!!!!!) However, get on those guestlists and entry prices will be halved!! Like they say... It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Dee Why Hotel

Dee Why Hotel
834 Pittwater Road,
DEE WHY NSW 2099

The rebirth of the new and improved Dee Why Hotel proved somewhat disappointing. The media hype and talk between party-hungry teens gave the impression of a reinvented Mona Vale Hotel. However, upon entering, my imagined standards were not met. The bar was packed and the room was so loud; resembling that of an RSL club.

Bad impressions aside, the bar service was very fast (a great contribute to a messy night). Drink prices were fairly reasonable, with beers ranging from $4-$6 and mixed spirts between $6-$8. But fear not, if you have two legs, eyes, arms, and ears, and resemble (if even remotely), a female, I guarantee a guy will be buying you a drink here. Yes, Dee Why Hotel is creep central. The packed out function room allows those quick arse-grabs to go about unnoticed....

Interior design was very trendy, and the dim lighting created an intimate atmosphere. Like an RSL there was generous amounts of food avaliable all night for cents, and a stylish, secluded gambling room, but to my dismay no dancefloor!!! But all in all the Dee Why Hotel definately created a buzzy bar experiece, which it claimed to do so.

Events on at Dee Why Hotel-
Wednesday night; an eclectric selection of songsmiths, vocalists and musicians playing blues/roots to pop to folk to acoustic classics, from 8.30pm onwards
Thursday night; soul, funk, jazz, latin and afro sounds from 8.30pm onwards
Friday night; house and funky beats, from 9pm onwards
Saturday night; funk, soul and earthy groove, jazz, classic hits, and unplugged rock and pop from 4pm onwards.

Four Seasons Sydney

The Bar
Four Seasons Sydney
199 George Street, Sydney

After a function in the ballroom of the Four Seasons I found myself drinking at the bar within the hotel and I must admit it is not a place I would normally go to. However, I did enjoy the change of pace and took great advantage of someone else paying for my drinks with domestic beers going for about $11 and cocktails $18+
The bar was packed with attendees of the function and it was probably much busier than it normally would be on any other day of the week. The finish of the bar and surroundings would be what one would expect from a 5 star hotel and the bar service was impeccable, which included food service.
It wouldn’t be a regular haunt I would frequent but I did appreciate it for the change and it was quite handy to have a place that serves food until close, which was 2am.

White Revolver

White Revolver
Cnr Curlewis & Campbell Parade
Bondi Beach

Most places in Bondi aren’t open that late and seeing as though I’m a bit of a night person the main point of attraction for White Revolver is the opening hours (I got there at 12 and left about 4) and I’m told it can stay open until 5-6am.

The venue itself is quite small and at some times can be slightly overcrowded but the atmosphere is not overbearing and there are places to sit or bust out if the urge should hit you.
Drinks prices are quite standard for a lounge/club – you’ll need about $8 for mixed spirits and beer.

A major inconvenience was the fact that they don’t accept credit cards but the staff defend this move by saying there is an ATM inside.
To conclude, beggars can’t be choosers in Bondi at this time of the night (or morning).

Bungalow 8

Bungalow 8
8, The Promenade
King Street Wharf
SYDNEY NSW 2000

Expensive beer, a bunch of creepy cougars and some pretty lousy music (from what I can remember)......not the Friday night I was looking for. Threw in the towel and headed to the Greengate for some more reasonably priced drinks, a game of Buck Hunter and a short stroll home.

May have been the fact that I was out since midday drinking for an extended lunch, the Mongolian BBQ I had before hand or the fact that I was kinda buggered (pretty smashed) but my overall rating of Bungalow 8 is probably 3/5. I think it's more somewhere to start the night drinking rather than end it.
